- Management assistant in BP Exploration, specialising in the development of support staff for 11 years and during that time, Worldwide Co-ordinator to Advance the Role of Women in BP Exploration for 2 years specialising in harassment issues, Trainer for BP of Breakthrough Training
- Independent Trainer for 11 years
- Became one of the preferred trainers of Glasgow Chamber of Commerce, specialising in management skills, business skills, personal development skills and support staff skills
- Trained women in women's development skills (Springboard Women's Development Programme)
- Wrote and delivered a specific course focusing on well-being in conjunction with SAMH
- Wrote and delivered a series of training courses for a major charity
- Delivered resentment and anger training to patients at Carstairs hospital, prior to their release
- During this period, and for five years, she became Chair/Chief Executive of a major charity in Scotland

Mary Lou created her courses along six main themes:
management skills for managers, team leaders (accredited Belbin trainer) and supervisors,
business skills including presentation skills, communication skills, negotiation skills,
personal development skills including motivation, positive thinking, anti-harassment,
support staff skills including telephone techniques, receptionist skills,
women's development skills (accredited Springboard trainer) and
well-being.
Primarily Mary Lou works for the Glasgow Chamber of Commerce but also works for a group of other training
providers. She has a unique style of training, full of confidence, openness, energy and enthusiasm and she
encourages full participation from clients, in a good-humoured yet confident style. She is warm, likeable,
positive and courageous.
